American Folklore

I work hard each and every day. I work hard, get there early, stay late, for no extra pay. And at the end of the week I still got no money saved.
I remember my daddy's stories about them union days. Yes I remember my dad's stories about them old union days. Since them days disappeared I wonder how we let a few rich folk put us all to shame.
There aint nothing wrong with being the poor. It's just American folklore.
Yes that rich man would have us all believe that financial profit is the only way to succeed. Now it's getting harder and harder to find a place of bliss and grace in this capitalist rap.
Still that rich man, he only survive by the strength of the working men's hands holding him high. We need a little compassion and common place.
Cause there aint nothing wrong with being the poor. It's just American folklore.

don't go worrying what might happen when it ain't even happen yet
don't give up love
hold your own
you're the thought process that you choose to pick up
pick the light one
you can't prepare
no matter how you weigh it
or how many times you say it
better to face the storm head on
this band aid's course has run
pull it and release a ton
oh hon
you're like a truck stuck in the mud yeah you're pushing up soaked up dirt
consider love
let go tightly
don't start thinking what might have come when we've been dancing round what really hurts
release it all
now is now
no matter how you weigh it
or how many times you say it
better to face the storm head on
this band aid's course has run
pull it and release a ton
oh hon
yeah you're pushing up soaked up dirt
release it all
no matter how you weigh it
or how many times you say it
better to face the storm head on
this band aid's course has run
pull it and release a ton

This Train

Been working hard most of my life. I never fell behind but neither focused much on money or time. I've been driven by and driven by love. The sweet sweet kinda love. Been both surrounded by friends and estranged in a crowd.
Your heart still can find peace. Your mind don't mean a thing, cause girl you know we're all floating free.
This train keeps on moving station to station regardless of what we think and no matter what we do.
And now the Maker's made it's mark. I don't know what will next trigger your crying to start. All them John Cusack movies from my youth never prepared me for now. Oh no they did not. I'm sorry I can't give you the things that you lack. I want our baby back.

ma used to call life a bowl o' cherries
but now i've stained my fingers some
it's gonna take some damn fine holy water
to make all those red stains gone
i got used to walking sideways
since this ceiling come along
soon i'm gonna bust outta some kind of window
start up new and strong
i'm gonna drink drink drink drink drink muddy water
restore faith
bring the good life back from something forlorn
and feel resurrected feel resurrected feel resurrected
from a song
